Additional Details

The first and largest portion of this album consists almost entirely of photographs of American Indians (34) and Colorado-area views (67). While none of these western photographs are credited, William Gunnison Chamberlain of Denver has been identified as the photographer for at least 8 of them, and the others are in a similar style. Highlights include 3 photographs each of the Ute chiefs Ouray and Powatch, all larger than cabinet-sized; 5 full-page views of the scenery near Glen Eyrie, CO; 4 full-page views of Estes Park; and a view of Georgetown, CO in 1872. The final 45 photographs in the album do not appear to be Chamberlain's. They depict travels in Cyprus, Mexico, Niagara Falls, and elsewhere. A complete list is available by request. Provenance: The Forbes Collection.
